Luke and Hana Merrow live in Phnom Penh with their preschooler, pairing ethical clinic partnership with Khmer house churches and elder apprenticeships. Hana is Japanese-American and coordinates caregiver training; Luke previously worked in logistics before Flintwell Mission Fellowship sent them in 2018. Their week mixes clinic supply runs, evening Scripture groups, and quiet mentoring of deacons who already carry real flocks.
The Mission
They support Khmer mentors who form house churches while a neighborhood clinic serves sick neighbors without coercion. Flintwell places them under national pastoral and clinical oversight. They aim for elder apprentices who can open Mark and James with confidence and care for one another when foreigners are absent.
The Heart Behind the Mission
Logistics matter here as much as sermons. When a mentor’s scooter dies, the group stalls. When a young believer faces family pressure after gospel conversations go public, the church needs practical care and quiet courage. They are happiest when a local leader rewrites their draft study sheet because it sounded too Western. Faithfulness looks like showing up on humid weeknights with snacks, notebooks, and no need to be the voice in the room.
